Qualcomm's Power Play: Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 and Mysterious SM8845 Chipset Set to Shake Up Smartphone Landscape
Qualcomm's Next Big Launch: What to Expect🤔
Qualcomm's upcoming launch event in late September is generating significant buzz, particularly with the anticipated unveiling of the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, model number SM8850. However, whispers in China have been circulating about another chip, the SM8845, set to launch this year. This chip isn't expected to be the Snapdragon 8s Gen 5 but rather a higher-end model, slightly below the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 in terms of hierarchy.
The naming convention for this new chip remains uncertain, but some speculate it could be the Snapdragon 8 Plus. Billed as a powerhouse, it's rumored to feature an all-big core CPU configuration with Qualcomm's custom-developed cores, similar to the original Snapdragon 8 Elite from last year.
The key differences lie in its fabrication process and peripherals, which are expected to be borrowed from the 8 Elite 2. This translates to a slight performance improvement over the original 8 Elite. According to Digital Chat Station, a well-known Chinese leaker, the SM8845 will power devices from Oppo, OnePlus, and vivo, which are expected to boast massive batteries up to 8,000 mAh.
This new chip seems poised to become the go-to choice for 'flagship killer' devices, bridging the performance gap between the 8s series and the 8 Elite lineup. Given its similarities to the original 8 Elite, it's intriguing to consider whether Qualcomm will phase out the older model or continue to offer both. One thing is certain: the smartphone landscape is about to get a significant boost with these new chipsets.
